The line to get into the climbing gym today stretched out the door and across the parking lot. Hundreds of highly capable youngsters swarmed the building and participated in the bouldering competition. Inconveniently, this meant that they’d taped off most of the wall and left only 1/6 of the regular area open for members. Disappointing, but not the end of the world.
After a week of attempts, I finally finished my first V5 problem. It was a “top out” route, so that makes it even more meaningful. I’ve been trying to get a V5 for months now, finally that goal has been achieved. I wouldn’t go so far as to call myself a “V5 climber” since doing it once may be a fluke.
That said, it was a big moment.
